الر ۚ كِتَابٌ أُحْكِمَتْ آيَاتُهُ ثُمَّ فُصِّلَتْ مِنْ لَدُنْ حَكِيمٍ خَبِيرٍ (1)

ALIF LAM RA. This is a Book whose verses are indeclinable and distinct, which comes from One who is most wise and all-knowing, Alif, Lâm, Râ. C'est un Livre dont les versets sont parfaits en style et en sens, émanant d'un Sage, Parfaitement Connaisseur.

أَلَّا تَعْبُدُوا إِلَّا اللَّهَ ۚ إِنَّنِي لَكُمْ مِنْهُ نَذِيرٌ وَبَشِيرٌ (2)

(Proclaiming) that you should worship none but God. Verily I bring to you from Him a message of warning and rejoicing, N'adorez qu'Allah. Moi, je suis pour vous, de Sa part, un avertisseur et un annonciateur.

وَأَنِ اسْتَغْفِرُوا رَبَّكُمْ ثُمَّ تُوبُوا إِلَيْهِ يُمَتِّعْكُمْ مَتَاعًا حَسَنًا إِلَىٰ أَجَلٍ مُسَمًّى وَيُؤْتِ كُلَّ ذِي فَضْلٍ فَضْلَهُ ۖ وَإِنْ تَوَلَّوْا فَإِنِّي أَخَافُ عَلَيْكُمْ عَذَابَ يَوْمٍ كَبِيرٍ (3)

And that you should seek His forgiveness and turn towards Him. He will bestow the best things of life on you for a time ordained, and favour those with blessings who are worthy of grace. But if you turn away, I fear the punishment of a terrible Day for you. Demandez pardon à votre Seigneur; ensuite, revenez à Lui. Il vous accordera une belle jouissance jusqu'à un terme fixé, et Il accordera à chaque méritant l'honneur qu'il mérite. Mais si vous tournez le dos, je crains alors pour vous le châtiment d'un grand jour.

إِلَى اللَّهِ مَرْجِعُكُمْ ۖ وَهُوَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ (4)

To God have you to go back, and He has power over everything. C'est à Allah que sera votre retour; et Il est Omnipotent.

أَلَا إِنَّهُمْ يَثْنُونَ صُدُورَهُمْ لِيَسْتَخْفُوا مِنْهُ ۚ أَلَا حِينَ يَسْتَغْشُونَ ثِيَابَهُمْ يَعْلَمُ مَا يُسِرُّونَ وَمَا يُعْلِنُونَ ۚ إِنَّهُ عَلِيمٌ بِذَاتِ الصُّدُورِ (5)

Look, how they double up their breasts in order to hide from Him. But when they cover themselves up with their garments, He knows what they hide and what they expose. Indeed, He knows the secrets of the hearts. Eh quoi! Ils replient leurs poitrines afin de se cacher de Lui. Même lorsqu'ils se couvrent de leurs vêtements, Il sait ce qu'ils cachent et ce qu'ils divulguent car Il connaît certes le contenu des poitrines.

وَمَا مِنْ دَابَّةٍ فِي الْأَرْضِ إِلَّا عَلَى اللَّهِ رِزْقُهَا وَيَعْلَمُ مُسْتَقَرَّهَا وَمُسْتَوْدَعَهَا ۚ كُلٌّ فِي كِتَابٍ مُبِينٍ (6)

There is not a creature that moves on the earth whose nourishment is not provided by God, whose place of sojourning and depositing is not known to Him. All things conform to a manifest law. Il n'y a point de bête sur terre dont la subsistance n'incombe à Allah qui connaît son gîte et son dépôt; tout est dans un Livre explicite.

وَهُوَ الَّذِي خَلَقَ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضَ فِي سِتَّةِ أَيَّامٍ وَكَانَ عَرْشُهُ عَلَى الْمَاءِ لِيَبْلُوَكُمْ أَيُّكُمْ أَحْسَنُ عَمَلًا ۗ وَلَئِنْ قُلْتَ إِنَّكُمْ مَبْعُوثُونَ مِنْ بَعْدِ الْمَوْتِ لَيَقُولَنَّ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا إِنْ هَٰذَا إِلَّا سِحْرٌ مُبِينٌ (7)

It is He who created the heavens and the earth In six spans, and has control over the waters (of life) so that he may bring out the best that everyone of you could do. Yet if you said to them: "You shall certainly be raised from the dead," the unbelievers will say: "This will be nothing but sorcery." Et c'est Lui qui a créé les cieux et la terre en six jours, - alors que Son Trône était sur l'eau, - afin d'éprouver lequel de vous agirait le mieux. Et si tu dis: «Vous serez ressuscités après la mort», ceux qui ne croient pas diront: «Ce n'est là qu'une magie évidente».

وَلَئِنْ أَخَّرْنَا عَنْهُمُ الْعَذَابَ إِلَىٰ أُمَّةٍ مَعْدُودَةٍ لَيَقُولُنَّ مَا يَحْبِسُهُ ۗ أَلَا يَوْمَ يَأْتِيهِمْ لَيْسَ مَصْرُوفًا عَنْهُمْ وَحَاقَ بِهِمْ مَا كَانُوا بِهِ يَسْتَهْزِئُونَ (8)

If We defer their punishment for a certain time, they will say: "What is keeping it back?" And yet, the day it comes, they will not be able to avert it; and what they used to laugh at will encompass them. Et si Nous retardons pour eux le châtiment jusqu'à une période fixée, ils diront: «Qu'est-ce qui le retient?» - Mais le jour où cela leur viendra, il ne sera pas détourné; d'eux et ce dont ils se moquaient les enveloppera.

وَلَئِنْ أَذَقْنَا الْإِنْسَانَ مِنَّا رَحْمَةً ثُمَّ نَزَعْنَاهَا مِنْهُ إِنَّهُ لَيَئُوسٌ كَفُورٌ (9)

If We allow man to enjoy Our favours, and then take them away from him, he becomes despondent and ungrateful. Et si Nous faisons goûter à l'homme une grâce de Notre part, et qu'ensuite Nous la lui arrachons, le voilà désespéré et ingrat.

وَلَئِنْ أَذَقْنَاهُ نَعْمَاءَ بَعْدَ ضَرَّاءَ مَسَّتْهُ لَيَقُولَنَّ ذَهَبَ السَّيِّئَاتُ عَنِّي ۚ إِنَّهُ لَفَرِحٌ فَخُورٌ (10)

If We let him taste Our favours after adversity, he says: "Misfortune has left me," and begins to brag and exult, Et si Nous lui faisons goûter le bonheur, après qu'un malheur l'ait touché, il dira: «Les maux se sont éloignés de moi», et le voilà qui exulte, plein de gloriole.

إِلَّا الَّذِينَ صَبَرُوا وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ أُولَٰئِكَ لَهُمْ مَغْفِرَةٌ وَأَجْرٌ كَبِيرٌ (11)

Except those who endure with patience and do the right, who will have pardon and a great reward. sauf ceux qui sont endurants et font de bonnes œuvres. Ceux-là obtiendront pardon et une grosse récompense.

فَلَعَلَّكَ تَارِكٌ بَعْضَ مَا يُوحَىٰ إِلَيْكَ وَضَائِقٌ بِهِ صَدْرُكَ أَنْ يَقُولُوا لَوْلَا أُنْزِلَ عَلَيْهِ كَنْزٌ أَوْ جَاءَ مَعَهُ مَلَكٌ ۚ إِنَّمَا أَنْتَ نَذِيرٌ ۚ وَاللَّهُ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ وَكِيلٌ (12)

You may haply omit some of what has been revealed to you, and may be disheartened because they say: "Why was no treasure sent down to him, or an angel accompanied him?" Yet you have been sent to warn alone, for God takes care of everything. Il se peut que tu négliges une partie de ce qui t'est révélé, et que ta poitrine s'en sente compressée; parce qu'ils disent: «Que n'a-t-on fait descendre sur lui un trésor?» Ou bien: «Que n'est-il venu un Ange en sa compagnie?» - Tu n'es qu'un avertisseur. Et Allah est Le protecteur de toute chose.

أَمْ يَقُولُونَ افْتَرَاهُ ۖ قُلْ فَأْتُوا بِعَشْرِ سُوَرٍ مِثْلِهِ مُفْتَرَيَاتٍ وَادْعُوا مَنِ اسْتَطَعْتُمْ مِنْ دُونِ اللَّهِ إِنْ كُنْتُمْ صَادِقِينَ (13)

Do they say (of the Prophet): "He has forged (the Qur'an)?" Say: "Then bring ten Surahs like it, and call anyone except God to help you, if what you say is true." Ou bien ils disent: «Il l'a forgé [le Coran]» - Dis: «Apportez donc dix Sourates semblables à ceci, forgées (par vous). Et appelez qui vous pourrez (pour vous aider), hormis Allah, si vous êtes véridiques».

فَإِلَّمْ يَسْتَجِيبُوا لَكُمْ فَاعْلَمُوا أَنَّمَا أُنْزِلَ بِعِلْمِ اللَّهِ وَأَنْ لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ ۖ فَهَلْ أَنْتُمْ مُسْلِمُونَ (14)

If they do not answer you, then know it has been revealed with the knowledge of God, and that there is no god but He. (And say:) "Will you now submit?" S'ils ne vous répondent pas, sachez alors que c'est par la science d'Allah qu'il est descendu, et qu'il n'y a de divinité que Lui. Etes-vous soumis (à Lui)?

مَنْ كَانَ يُرِيدُ الْحَيَاةَ الدُّنْيَا وَزِينَتَهَا نُوَفِّ إِلَيْهِمْ أَعْمَالَهُمْ فِيهَا وَهُمْ فِيهَا لَا يُبْخَسُونَ (15)

To those who desire the life of this world and its many allures, We shall pay them in full for their acts herein and will not withold any thing. Ceux qui veulent la vie présente avec sa parure, Nous les rétribuerons exactement selon leurs actions sur terre, sans que rien leur en soit diminué.

أُولَٰئِكَ الَّذِينَ لَيْسَ لَهُمْ فِي الْآخِرَةِ إِلَّا النَّارُ ۖ وَحَبِطَ مَا صَنَعُوا فِيهَا وَبَاطِلٌ مَا كَانُوا يَعْمَلُونَ (16)

Yet these are the people for whom there is nothing but Fire in the world to come. Fruitless will be what they have fashioned, and whatever they have done will perish. Ceux-là qui n'ont rien, dans l'au-delà, que le Feu. Ce qu'ils auront fait ici-bas sera un échec, et sera vain ce qu'ils auront œuvré.

أَفَمَنْ كَانَ عَلَىٰ بَيِّنَةٍ مِنْ رَبِّهِ وَيَتْلُوهُ شَاهِدٌ مِنْهُ وَمِنْ قَبْلِهِ كِتَابُ مُوسَىٰ إِمَامًا وَرَحْمَةً ۚ أُولَٰئِكَ يُؤْمِنُونَ بِهِ ۚ وَمَنْ يَكْفُرْ بِهِ مِنَ الْأَحْزَابِ فَالنَّارُ مَوْعِدُهُ ۚ فَلَا تَكُ فِي مِرْيَةٍ مِنْهُ ۚ إِنَّهُ الْحَقُّ مِنْ رَبِّكَ وَلَٰكِنَّ أَكْثَرَ النَّاسِ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ (17)

Will he who has a clear proof from his Lord, which acts as evidence from Him, before which the Book of Moses was a way-giver and a grace, (not believe in it)? Whoever among the partisans does not believe in it shall have Hell as the promised award. So have no doubt about it, for surely it's the truth from your Lord, though most men may not believe. Est-ce que celui qui se fonde sur une preuve évidente (le Coran) venant de son Seigneur et récitée par un témoin [l'archange Gabriel] de Sa part, cependant qu'avant lui [Muhammad] il y a le livre de Moïse tenant lieu de guide et de miséricorde... [est meilleur ou bien celui qui ne se fonde sur aucune preuve valable?]. Ceux-là y croient; mais quiconque d'entre les factions n'y croit pas, aura le Feu comme rendez-vous. Ne sois donc pas en doute au sujet de ceci (le Coran). Oui, c'est la vérité venant de ton Seigneur; mais la plupart des gens n'y croient pas.

وَمَنْ أَظْلَمُ مِمَّنِ افْتَرَىٰ عَلَى اللَّهِ كَذِبًا ۚ أُولَٰئِكَ يُعْرَضُونَ عَلَىٰ رَبِّهِمْ وَيَقُولُ الْأَشْهَادُ هَٰؤُلَاءِ الَّذِينَ كَذَبُوا عَلَىٰ رَبِّهِمْ ۚ أَلَا لَعْنَةُ اللَّهِ عَلَى الظَّالِمِينَ (18)

Who is more wicked than he who invents lies about God? Such men shall be arraigned before their Lord, and the witnesses will testify: "These are those who imputed lies to God." Beware! The scourge of God will fall on the unjust, Et quel pire injuste que celui qui forge un mensonge contre Allah? Ceux-là seront présentés à leur Seigneur, et les témoins (les anges) diront: «Voilà ceux qui ont menti contre leur Seigneur». Que la malédiction d'Allah (frappe) les injustes,

الَّذِينَ يَصُدُّونَ عَنْ سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ وَيَبْغُونَهَا عِوَجًا وَهُمْ بِالْآخِرَةِ هُمْ كَافِرُونَ (19)

Who obstruct others from the way of God and seek obliquity in it, and do not believe in the life to come. qui obstruent le sentier d'Allah (aux gens), cherchent à le rendre tortueux et ne croient pas en l'au-delà.

أُولَٰئِكَ لَمْ يَكُونُوا مُعْجِزِينَ فِي الْأَرْضِ وَمَا كَانَ لَهُمْ مِنْ دُونِ اللَّهِ مِنْ أَوْلِيَاءَ ۘ يُضَاعَفُ لَهُمُ الْعَذَابُ ۚ مَا كَانُوا يَسْتَطِيعُونَ السَّمْعَ وَمَا كَانُوا يُبْصِرُونَ (20)

They shall not weaken (the power of) God on earth, nor find any other protector but God. Their punishment will be doubled, for they could neither hear nor see. Ceux-là ne peuvent réduire (Allah) à l'impuissance sur terre! Pas d'alliés pour eux en dehors d'Allah et leur châtiment sera doublé. Ils étaient incapables d'entendre; ils ne voyaient pas non plus.

أُولَٰئِكَ الَّذِينَ خَسِرُوا أَنْفُسَهُمْ وَضَلَّ عَنْهُمْ مَا كَانُوا يَفْتَرُونَ (21)

They are verily those who exceeded themselves, and the (gods) they invented abandoned them. Ce sont ceux-là qui ont causé la perte de leurs propres âmes. Et leurs inventions (idoles) se sont éloignées d'eux.

لَا جَرَمَ أَنَّهُمْ فِي الْآخِرَةِ هُمُ الْأَخْسَرُونَ (22)

Undoubtedly they will be losers in the life to come. Ce sont eux, infailliblement, qui dans l'au-delà seront les plus grands perdants.

إِنَّ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ وَأَخْبَتُوا إِلَىٰ رَبِّهِمْ أُولَٰئِكَ أَصْحَابُ الْجَنَّةِ ۖ هُمْ فِيهَا خَالِدُونَ (23)

But those who believe and do things good, and are humble before their Lord, are men of Paradise where they will abide for ever. Certes ceux qui croient, font de bonnes œuvres et s'humilient devant leur Seigneur, voilà les gens du Paradis où ils demeureront éternellement.

مَثَلُ الْفَرِيقَيْنِ كَالْأَعْمَىٰ وَالْأَصَمِّ وَالْبَصِيرِ وَالسَّمِيعِ ۚ هَلْ يَسْتَوِيَانِ مَثَلًا ۚ أَفَلَا تَذَكَّرُونَ (24)

The semblance of these two groups is that of a man who is deaf and blind, and the other who can hear and see. Can they be equal? Why do you not reflect? Les deux groupes ressemblent, l'un à l'aveugle et au sourd, l'autre à celui qui voit et qui entend. Les deux sont-ils comparativement égaux? Ne vous souvenez-vous pas?

وَلَقَدْ أَرْسَلْنَا نُوحًا إِلَىٰ قَوْمِهِ إِنِّي لَكُمْ نَذِيرٌ مُبِينٌ (25)

We sent Noah to his people (and he said): "I give you a clear warning. Nous avons déjà envoyé Noé à son peuple: «Je suis pour vous un avertisseur explicite

أَنْ لَا تَعْبُدُوا إِلَّا اللَّهَ ۖ إِنِّي أَخَافُ عَلَيْكُمْ عَذَابَ يَوْمٍ أَلِيمٍ (26)

Do not worship anyone but God; for I fear the punishment of a dreadful day for you." afin que vous n'adoriez qu'Allah. Je crains pour vous le châtiment d'un jour douloureux».

فَقَالَ الْمَلَأُ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا مِنْ قَوْمِهِ مَا نَرَاكَ إِلَّا بَشَرًا مِثْلَنَا وَمَا نَرَاكَ اتَّبَعَكَ إِلَّا الَّذِينَ هُمْ أَرَاذِلُنَا بَادِيَ الرَّأْيِ وَمَا نَرَىٰ لَكُمْ عَلَيْنَا مِنْ فَضْلٍ بَلْ نَظُنُّكُمْ كَاذِبِينَ (27)

The leaders of the people who were unbelievers, replied: "We see that you are but a man like us, and see that none among us follows you but the meanest and immature of judgement, and do not see any excellence in you above us. In fact, we think you are a liar." Les notables de son peuple qui avaient mécru, dirent alors: «Nous ne voyons en toi qu'un homme comme nous; et nous voyons que ce sont seulement les vils parmi nous qui te suivent sans réfléchir; et nous ne voyons en vous aucune supériorité sur nous. Plutôt, nous pensons que vous êtes des menteurs».

قَالَ يَا قَوْمِ أَرَأَيْتُمْ إِنْ كُنْتُ عَلَىٰ بَيِّنَةٍ مِنْ رَبِّي وَآتَانِي رَحْمَةً مِنْ عِنْدِهِ فَعُمِّيَتْ عَلَيْكُمْ أَنُلْزِمُكُمُوهَا وَأَنْتُمْ لَهَا كَارِهُونَ (28)

He said: "O my people, think. If I have a clear proof from my Lord, and He has bestowed on me His grace, though unknown to you, can we force it upon you when you are averse? Il dit: «O mon peuple! Que vous en semble? Si je me conforme à une preuve de mon Seigneur, si une Miséricorde, (prophétie) échappant à vos yeux, est venue à moi de Sa part, devrons-nous vous l'imposer alors que vous la répugnez?

وَيَا قَوْمِ لَا أَسْأَلُكُمْ عَلَيْهِ مَالًا ۖ إِنْ أَجْرِيَ إِلَّا عَلَى اللَّهِ ۚ وَمَا أَنَا بِطَارِدِ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا ۚ إِنَّهُمْ مُلَاقُو رَبِّهِمْ وَلَٰكِنِّي أَرَاكُمْ قَوْمًا تَجْهَلُونَ (29)

I do not demand for it any wealth from you, O my people. My reward is with God. And I will not drive those away who believe. They have also to meet their Lord. But I see you are an ignorant people. O mon peuple, je ne vous demande pas de richesse en retour. Mon salaire n'incombe qu'à Allah. Je ne repousserai point ceux qui ont cru, ils auront à rencontrer leur Seigneur. Mais je vous trouve des gens ignorants.

وَيَا قَوْمِ مَنْ يَنْصُرُنِي مِنَ اللَّهِ إِنْ طَرَدْتُهُمْ ۚ أَفَلَا تَذَكَّرُونَ (30)

O my people, who will save me from God if I drive them away? Do you not understand? O mon peuple, qui me secourra contre (la punition d') Allah si je les repousse? Ne vous souvenez-vous pas?

وَلَا أَقُولُ لَكُمْ عِنْدِي خَزَائِنُ اللَّهِ وَلَا أَعْلَمُ الْغَيْبَ وَلَا أَقُولُ إِنِّي مَلَكٌ وَلَا أَقُولُ لِلَّذِينَ تَزْدَرِي أَعْيُنُكُمْ لَنْ يُؤْتِيَهُمُ اللَّهُ خَيْرًا ۖ اللَّهُ أَعْلَمُ بِمَا فِي أَنْفُسِهِمْ ۖ إِنِّي إِذًا لَمِنَ الظَّالِمِينَ (31)

I say not that I have the treasures of God, or that I possess the knowledge of the unknown. I do not claim to be an angel, nor can I say that God will not bestow any good on those you disdain, for God is cognisant of what is in their hearts. If I say this, I will surely be unjust." Et je ne vous dis pas que je détiens les trésors d'Allah, je ne connais pas l'Inconnaissable, et je ne dis pas que je suis un Ange; et je ne dis pas non plus aux gens, que vos yeux méprisent, qu'Allah ne leur accordera aucune faveur; Allah connaît mieux ce qu'il y a dans leurs âmes. [Si je le leur disais], je serais du nombre des injustes.

قَالُوا يَا نُوحُ قَدْ جَادَلْتَنَا فَأَكْثَرْتَ جِدَالَنَا فَأْتِنَا بِمَا تَعِدُنَا إِنْ كُنْتَ مِنَ الصَّادِقِينَ (32)

They said: "O Noah, you have argued with us, and disputed at length; so bring that (retribution) you promise, if you speak the truth." Ils dirent: «O Noé, tu as disputé avec nous et multiplié les discussions. Apporte-nous donc ce dont tu nous menaces, si tu es du nombre des véridiques».

قَالَ إِنَّمَا يَأْتِيكُمْ بِهِ اللَّهُ إِنْ شَاءَ وَمَا أَنْتُمْ بِمُعْجِزِينَ (33)

He replied: "Only God will bring it on you if He please, and you cannot prevail against Him. Il dit: «C'est Allah seul qui vous l'apportera - s'Il veut - et vous ne saurez y échapper.

وَلَا يَنْفَعُكُمْ نُصْحِي إِنْ أَرَدْتُ أَنْ أَنْصَحَ لَكُمْ إِنْ كَانَ اللَّهُ يُرِيدُ أَنْ يُغْوِيَكُمْ ۚ هُوَ رَبُّكُمْ وَإِلَيْهِ تُرْجَعُونَ (34)

Even if I wish to advise you aright, my counsel will not profit you if God intend that you go astray, for He is your Lord and to Him you will return." Et mon conseil ne vous profiterait pas, au cas où je voulais vous conseiller, et qu'Allah veuille vous égarer. Il est votre Seigneur, et c'est vers Lui que vous serez ramenés».

أَمْ يَقُولُونَ افْتَرَاهُ ۖ قُلْ إِنِ افْتَرَيْتُهُ فَعَلَيَّ إِجْرَامِي وَأَنَا بَرِيءٌ مِمَّا تُجْرِمُونَ (35)

Do they say you have fabricated it? Tell them: "If I have fabricated it, then mine is the guilt; but I am clear of what you are guilty." Ou bien ils disent: il l'a inventé? Dis: «Si je l'ai inventé, que mon crime retombe sur moi! Et je suis innocent de vos criminelles accusations».

وَأُوحِيَ إِلَىٰ نُوحٍ أَنَّهُ لَنْ يُؤْمِنَ مِنْ قَوْمِكَ إِلَّا مَنْ قَدْ آمَنَ فَلَا تَبْتَئِسْ بِمَا كَانُوا يَفْعَلُونَ (36)

And Noah was informed through revelation: "Apart from those who have come to believe already not one of your people is going to believe. So grieve not for what they are doing. Et il fut révélé à Noé: «De ton peuple, il n'y aura plus de croyants que ceux qui ont déjà cru. Ne t'afflige pas de ce qu'ils faisaient.

وَاصْنَعِ الْفُلْكَ بِأَعْيُنِنَا وَوَحْيِنَا وَلَا تُخَاطِبْنِي فِي الَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوا ۚ إِنَّهُمْ مُغْرَقُونَ (37)

Build an ark under Our eye and as We instruct. Do not plead for those who have been wicked, for they shall certainly be drowned." Et construis l'arche sous Nos yeux et d'après Notre révélation. Et ne M'interpelle plus au sujet des injustes, car ils vont être noyés».

وَيَصْنَعُ الْفُلْكَ وَكُلَّمَا مَرَّ عَلَيْهِ مَلَأٌ مِنْ قَوْمِهِ سَخِرُوا مِنْهُ ۚ قَالَ إِنْ تَسْخَرُوا مِنَّا فَإِنَّا نَسْخَرُ مِنْكُمْ كَمَا تَسْخَرُونَ (38)

So he built the ark; and when groups of his people passed by him, they scoffed at him. He said to them: "Though you laugh at us (now), we shall laugh at you, as you are laughing at us. Et il construisait l'arche. Et chaque fois que des notables de son peuple passaient près de lui, ils se moquaient de lui. Il dit: «Si vous vous moquez de nous, eh bien, nous nous moquerons de vous, comme vous vous moquez [de nous].

فَسَوْفَ تَعْلَمُونَ مَنْ يَأْتِيهِ عَذَابٌ يُخْزِيهِ وَيَحِلُّ عَلَيْهِ عَذَابٌ مُقِيمٌ (39)

You will soon come to know who suffers the punishment that would put him to shame, and who suffers lasting torment." Et vous saurez bientôt à qui viendra un châtiment qui l'humiliera, et sur qui s'abattra un châtiment durable!»

حَتَّىٰ إِذَا جَاءَ أَمْرُنَا وَفَارَ التَّنُّورُ قُلْنَا احْمِلْ فِيهَا مِنْ كُلٍّ زَوْجَيْنِ اثْنَيْنِ وَأَهْلَكَ إِلَّا مَنْ سَبَقَ عَلَيْهِ الْقَوْلُ وَمَنْ آمَنَ ۚ وَمَا آمَنَ مَعَهُ إِلَّا قَلِيلٌ (40)

When Our command was issued and the waters gushed forth from the source, We said: "Take into (the ark) a pair of every species, and members of your family other than those against whom the sentence has been passed already, and those who come to believe." But only a few believed in him. Puis, lorsque Notre commandement vint et que le four se mit à bouillonner [d'eau], Nous dîmes: «Charge [dans l'arche] un couple de chaque espèce ainsi que ta famille - sauf ceux contre qui le décret est déjà prononcé - et ceux qui croient». Or, ceux qui avaient cru avec lui étaient peu nombreux.

وَقَالَ ارْكَبُوا فِيهَا بِسْمِ اللَّهِ مَجْرَاهَا وَمُرْسَاهَا ۚ إِنَّ رَبِّي لَغَفُورٌ رَحِيمٌ (41)

And (Noah) said: "Embark. In the name of God be its course and mooring. My Lord is surely forgiving and kind." Et il dit: «Montez dedans. Que sa course et son mouillage soient au nom d'Allah. Certes mon Seigneur est Pardonneur et Miséricordieux».

وَهِيَ تَجْرِي بِهِمْ فِي مَوْجٍ كَالْجِبَالِ وَنَادَىٰ نُوحٌ ابْنَهُ وَكَانَ فِي مَعْزِلٍ يَا بُنَيَّ ارْكَبْ مَعَنَا وَلَا تَكُنْ مَعَ الْكَافِرِينَ (42)

It sailed on waves like mountains (high), and Noah called to his son who was separated from him: "Embark with us, O my son, and be not one of those who do not believe." Et elle vogua en les emportant au milieu des vagues comme des montagnes. Et Noé appela son fils, qui restait en un lieu écarté (non loin de l'arche): «O mon enfant, monte avec nous et ne reste pas avec les mécréants».

قَالَ سَآوِي إِلَىٰ جَبَلٍ يَعْصِمُنِي مِنَ الْمَاءِ ۚ قَالَ لَا عَاصِمَ الْيَوْمَ مِنْ أَمْرِ اللَّهِ إِلَّا مَنْ رَحِمَ ۚ وَحَالَ بَيْنَهُمَا الْمَوْجُ فَكَانَ مِنَ الْمُغْرَقِينَ (43)

"I shall go up a mountain," he said, "which will keep me from the water." "There is no getting away," said Noah, "from the decree of God today, except for those on whom be His mercy." And a wave came between them, and he was among those who were drowned. Il répondit: «Je vais me réfugier vers un mont qui me protègera de l'eau». Et Noé lui dit: «Il n'y a aujourd'hui aucun protecteur contre l'ordre d'Allah. (Tous périront) sauf celui à qui Il fait miséricorde». Et les vagues s'interposèrent entre les deux, et le fils fut alors du nombre des noyés.

وَقِيلَ يَا أَرْضُ ابْلَعِي مَاءَكِ وَيَا سَمَاءُ أَقْلِعِي وَغِيضَ الْمَاءُ وَقُضِيَ الْأَمْرُ وَاسْتَوَتْ عَلَى الْجُودِيِّ ۖ وَقِيلَ بُعْدًا لِلْقَوْمِ الظَّالِمِينَ (44)

Then it was said: "O earth, swallow back your water; and, O sky, desist." And the water subsided, and the decree was accomplished. The ark came to rest on Judi (Mount Ararat), and it was said: "Away with the cursed people!" Et il fut dit: «O terre, absorbe ton eau! Et toi, ciel, cesse [de pleuvoir]!» L'eau baissa, l'ordre fut exécuté et l'arche s'installa sur le Jûdi, et il fut dit: «Que disparaissent les gens pervers»!

وَنَادَىٰ نُوحٌ رَبَّهُ فَقَالَ رَبِّ إِنَّ ابْنِي مِنْ أَهْلِي وَإِنَّ وَعْدَكَ الْحَقُّ وَأَنْتَ أَحْكَمُ الْحَاكِمِينَ (45)

Noah called on his Lord and said: "O Lord, my son is surely a member of my family, and verily Your promise is true, as You are the most just of all judges." Et Noé invoqua son Seigneur et dit: «O mon Seigneur, certes mon fils est de ma famille et Ta promesse est vérité. Tu es le plus juste des juges».

قَالَ يَا نُوحُ إِنَّهُ لَيْسَ مِنْ أَهْلِكَ ۖ إِنَّهُ عَمَلٌ غَيْرُ صَالِحٍ ۖ فَلَا تَسْأَلْنِ مَا لَيْسَ لَكَ بِهِ عِلْمٌ ۖ إِنِّي أَعِظُكَ أَنْ تَكُونَ مِنَ الْجَاهِلِينَ (46)

"O Noah", He answered, "truly he is not of your family. He is surely the outcome of an unrighteous act. So ask Me not of what you do not know. I warn you not to be one of the ignorant." Il dit: «O Noé, il n'est pas de ta famille car il a commis un acte infâme. Ne me demande pas ce dont tu n'as aucune connaissance. Je t'exhorte afin que tu ne sois pas du nombre des ignorants».

قَالَ رَبِّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ أَنْ أَسْأَلَكَ مَا لَيْسَ لِي بِهِ عِلْمٌ ۖ وَإِلَّا تَغْفِرْ لِي وَتَرْحَمْنِي أَكُنْ مِنَ الْخَاسِرِينَ (47)

"Preserve me, O Lord," said (Noah), "from asking You that of which I have no knowledge. If You do not forgive me and have mercy on me I shall be among those who perish." Alors Noé dit: «Seigneur, je cherche Ta protection contre toute demande de ce dont je n'ai aucune connaissance. Et si Tu ne me pardonnes pas et ne me fais pas miséricorde, je serai au nombre des perdants».

قِيلَ يَا نُوحُ اهْبِطْ بِسَلَامٍ مِنَّا وَبَرَكَاتٍ عَلَيْكَ وَعَلَىٰ أُمَمٍ مِمَّنْ مَعَكَ ۚ وَأُمَمٌ سَنُمَتِّعُهُمْ ثُمَّ يَمَسُّهُمْ مِنَّا عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ (48)

(And the Lord) said: "O Noah, disembark with peace and safety from Us and blessings on you and the people with you. As for some (of them), We shall bestow advantages for a time, then send a grievous punishment on them." Il fut dit: «O Noé, débarque avec Notre sécurité et Nos bénédictions sur toi et sur des communautés [issues] de ceux qui sont avec toi. Et il y (en) aura des communautés auxquelles Nous accorderons une jouissance temporaire; puis un châtiment douloureux venant de Nous les touchera».

تِلْكَ مِنْ أَنْبَاءِ الْغَيْبِ نُوحِيهَا إِلَيْكَ ۖ مَا كُنْتَ تَعْلَمُهَا أَنْتَ وَلَا قَوْمُكَ مِنْ قَبْلِ هَٰذَا ۖ فَاصْبِرْ ۖ إِنَّ الْعَاقِبَةَ لِلْمُتَّقِينَ (49)

This is news of the Unknown We reveal to you, which neither you nor your people knew before. So endure with patience. The future is for those who keep away from evil and follow the straight path. Voilà quelques nouvelles de l'Inconnaissable que Nous te révélons. Tu ne les savais pas, ni toi ni ton peuple, avant cela. Sois patient. La fin heureuse sera aux pieux.

وَإِلَىٰ عَادٍ أَخَاهُمْ هُودًا ۚ قَالَ يَا قَوْمِ اعْبُدُوا اللَّهَ مَا لَكُمْ مِنْ إِلَٰهٍ غَيْرُهُ ۖ إِنْ أَنْتُمْ إِلَّا مُفْتَرُونَ (50)

We sent to the people of 'Ad their brother Hud, who said: "O my people, worship God; you have no other god but He. (As for the idols,) you are only inventing lies. Et (Nous avons envoyé) aux 'Aad, leur frère Hûd, qui leur dit: «O mon peuple, adorez Allah. Vous n'avez point de divinité à part Lui. Vous n'êtes que des forgeurs (de mensonges).

يَا قَوْمِ لَا أَسْأَلُكُمْ عَلَيْهِ أَجْرًا ۖ إِنْ أَجْرِيَ إِلَّا عَلَى الَّذِي فَطَرَنِي ۚ أَفَلَا تَعْقِلُونَ (51)

O my people, I ask no recompense of you for it: My reward is with Him who created me. Will you not, therefore, understand? O mon peuple, je ne vous demande pas de salaire pour cela. Mon salaire n'incombe qu'à Celui qui m'a créé. Ne raisonnez-vous pas?

وَيَا قَوْمِ اسْتَغْفِرُوا رَبَّكُمْ ثُمَّ تُوبُوا إِلَيْهِ يُرْسِلِ السَّمَاءَ عَلَيْكُمْ مِدْرَارًا وَيَزِدْكُمْ قُوَّةً إِلَىٰ قُوَّتِكُمْ وَلَا تَتَوَلَّوْا مُجْرِمِينَ (52)

O my people, beg your Lord to forgive you, and turn to Him in repentance. He will send down rain in torrents for you from the shies, and give you added strength. So do not turn away from Him as sinners." O mon peuple, implorez le pardon de votre Seigneur et repentez-vous à Lui pour qu'Il envoie sur vous du ciel des pluies abondantes et qu'Il ajoute force à votre force. Et ne vous détournez pas [de Lui] en devenant coupables».

قَالُوا يَا هُودُ مَا جِئْتَنَا بِبَيِّنَةٍ وَمَا نَحْنُ بِتَارِكِي آلِهَتِنَا عَنْ قَوْلِكَ وَمَا نَحْنُ لَكَ بِمُؤْمِنِينَ (53)

They said: "O Hud, you have come to us with no proofs. We shall not abandon our gods because you say so, nor believe in you. Ils dirent: «O Hûd, tu n'es pas venu à nous avec une preuve, et nous ne sommes pas disposés à abandonner nos divinités sur ta parole, et nous n'avons pas foi en toi.

إِنْ نَقُولُ إِلَّا اعْتَرَاكَ بَعْضُ آلِهَتِنَا بِسُوءٍ ۗ قَالَ إِنِّي أُشْهِدُ اللَّهَ وَاشْهَدُوا أَنِّي بَرِيءٌ مِمَّا تُشْرِكُونَ (54)

All we can say is that some of our gods have smitten you with evil." He replied:" I call God to witness, and you be witness too, that I am clear of what you associate (in your affairs) Nous dirons plutôt qu'une de nos divinités t'a affligé d'un mal». Il dit: «Je prends Allah à témoin - et vous aussi soyez témoins - qu'en vérité, je désavoue ce que vous associez,

مِنْ دُونِهِ ۖ فَكِيدُونِي جَمِيعًا ثُمَّ لَا تُنْظِرُونِ (55)

Apart from Him. Contrive against me as much as you like, and give me no respite. en dehors de Lui. Rusez donc tous contre moi et ne me donnez pas de répit.

إِنِّي تَوَكَّلْتُ عَلَى اللَّهِ رَبِّي وَرَبِّكُمْ ۚ مَا مِنْ دَابَّةٍ إِلَّا هُوَ آخِذٌ بِنَاصِيَتِهَا ۚ إِنَّ رَبِّي عَلَىٰ صِرَاطٍ مُسْتَقِيمٍ (56)

I place my trust in God who is my Lord and your Lord. There is no creature that moves on the earth who is not held by the forelock firmly by Him. Verily the way of my Lord is straight. Je place ma confiance en Allah, mon Seigneur et le vôtre. Il n'y a pas d'être vivant qu'Il ne tienne par son toupet. Mon Seigneur, certes, est sur un droit chemin.

فَإِنْ تَوَلَّوْا فَقَدْ أَبْلَغْتُكُمْ مَا أُرْسِلْتُ بِهِ إِلَيْكُمْ ۚ وَيَسْتَخْلِفُ رَبِّي قَوْمًا غَيْرَكُمْ وَلَا تَضُرُّونَهُ شَيْئًا ۚ إِنَّ رَبِّي عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ حَفِيظٌ (57)

If you turn away, then (remember) I have delivered to you the message I was sent with. My Lord will put other people in your place, and you will not be able to prevail against Him. Indeed my Lord keeps a watch over all things." Si vous vous détournez... voilà que je vous ai transmis [le message] que j'étais chargé de vous faire parvenir. Et mon Seigneur vous remplacera par un autre peuple, sans que vous ne Lui nuisiez en rien, car mon Seigneur, est gardien par excellence sur toute chose».

وَلَمَّا جَاءَ أَمْرُنَا نَجَّيْنَا هُودًا وَالَّذِينَ آمَنُوا مَعَهُ بِرَحْمَةٍ مِنَّا وَنَجَّيْنَاهُمْ مِنْ عَذَابٍ غَلِيظٍ (58)

So, when Our command was issued We rescued Hud by Our grace, and those who believed, with him, and saved them from a dreadful doom. Et quand vint Notre Ordre, Nous sauvâmes par une miséricorde de Notre part, Hûd et ceux qui avec lui avaient cru. Et Nous les sauvâmes d'un terrible châtiment.

وَتِلْكَ عَادٌ ۖ جَحَدُوا بِآيَاتِ رَبِّهِمْ وَعَصَوْا رُسُلَهُ وَاتَّبَعُوا أَمْرَ كُلِّ جَبَّارٍ عَنِيدٍ (59)

These were the people of 'Ad who denied the word of their Lord and rebelled against His apostles, and followed the bidding of every perverse tyrant. Voilà les 'Aad. Ils avaient nié les signes (enseignements) de leur Seigneur, désobéi à Ses messagers et suivi le commandement de tout tyran entêté.

وَأُتْبِعُوا فِي هَٰذِهِ الدُّنْيَا لَعْنَةً وَيَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ ۗ أَلَا إِنَّ عَادًا كَفَرُوا رَبَّهُمْ ۗ أَلَا بُعْدًا لِعَادٍ قَوْمِ هُودٍ (60)

So they were accursed in the world, and they will be damned on the Day of Doom. Beware! The 'Ad turned away from their Lord. Et ils furent poursuivis, ici-bas, d'une malédiction, ainsi qu'au Jour de la Résurrection. En vérité, les 'Aad n'ont pas cru en leur Seigneur. Que s'éloignent (périssent) les 'Aad, peuple de Hûd!

وَإِلَىٰ ثَمُودَ أَخَاهُمْ صَالِحًا ۚ قَالَ يَا قَوْمِ اعْبُدُوا اللَّهَ مَا لَكُمْ مِنْ إِلَٰهٍ غَيْرُهُ ۖ هُوَ أَنْشَأَكُمْ مِنَ الْأَرْضِ وَاسْتَعْمَرَكُمْ فِيهَا فَاسْتَغْفِرُوهُ ثُمَّ تُوبُوا إِلَيْهِ ۚ إِنَّ رَبِّي قَرِيبٌ مُجِيبٌ (61)

Be warned! Accursed are the people of 'Ad who were Hud's. To Thamud We Sent their brother Saleh. "O my people," he said, "worship God; you have no other god but He. It is He who raised you from the earth and settled you upon it. So beg your Lord to forgive you, and turn to Him in repentance. Surely my Lord is near and answers." Et (Nous avons envoyé) aux Thamûd, leur frère Sâlih qui dit: «O mon peuple, adorez Allah. Vous n'avez point de divinité en dehors de Lui. De la terre Il vous a créés, et Il vous l'a fait peupler (et exploiter). Implorez donc Son pardon, puis repentez-vous à Lui. Mon Seigneur est bien proche et Il répond toujours (aux appels)».

قَالُوا يَا صَالِحُ قَدْ كُنْتَ فِينَا مَرْجُوًّا قَبْلَ هَٰذَا ۖ أَتَنْهَانَا أَنْ نَعْبُدَ مَا يَعْبُدُ آبَاؤُنَا وَإِنَّنَا لَفِي شَكٍّ مِمَّا تَدْعُونَا إِلَيْهِ مُرِيبٍ (62)

They said: "O Saleh, we had placed our hopes in you, but you forbid us from worshipping that which our fathers worshipped, and we are suspicious of what you are calling us to." Ils dirent: «O Sâlih, tu étais auparavant un espoir pour nous. Nous interdirais-tu d'adorer ce qu'adoraient nos ancêtres? Cependant, nous voilà bien dans un doute troublant au sujet de ce vers quoi tu nous invites».

قَالَ يَا قَوْمِ أَرَأَيْتُمْ إِنْ كُنْتُ عَلَىٰ بَيِّنَةٍ مِنْ رَبِّي وَآتَانِي مِنْهُ رَحْمَةً فَمَنْ يَنْصُرُنِي مِنَ اللَّهِ إِنْ عَصَيْتُهُ ۖ فَمَا تَزِيدُونَنِي غَيْرَ تَخْسِيرٍ (63)

He said: "O my people, have you considered that if my Lord has clearly shown me the way, and I have His blessings too, who will save me then from God if I disobey? You will only add to my ruin. Il dit: «O mon peuple! Que vous en semble, si je m'appuie sur une preuve évidente émanant de mon Seigneur et s'Il m'a accordé, de Sa part, une miséricorde, qui donc me protègera contre Allah si je Lui désobéis? Vous ne ferez qu'accroître ma perte.

وَيَا قَوْمِ هَٰذِهِ نَاقَةُ اللَّهِ لَكُمْ آيَةً فَذَرُوهَا تَأْكُلْ فِي أَرْضِ اللَّهِ وَلَا تَمَسُّوهَا بِسُوءٍ فَيَأْخُذَكُمْ عَذَابٌ قَرِيبٌ (64)

O my people, this she-camel of God is a token for you. So leave her alone to graze on God's earth, and do not molest her, otherwise the swiftest punishment would befall you." O mon peuple, voici la chamelle d'Allah qu'Il vous a envoyée comme signe. Laissez-la donc paître sur la terre d'Allah, et ne lui faites aucun mal sinon, un châtiment proche vous saisira!»

فَعَقَرُوهَا فَقَالَ تَمَتَّعُوا فِي دَارِكُمْ ثَلَاثَةَ أَيَّامٍ ۖ ذَٰلِكَ وَعْدٌ غَيْرُ مَكْذُوبٍ (65)

But they hamstrung her. Then (Saleh) said: "You have but three days to enjoy life in your homes. Infallible is this promise. Ils la tuèrent. Alors, il leur dit: «Jouissez (de vos biens) dans vos demeures pendant trois jours (encore)! Voilà une promesse qui ne sera pas démentie».

فَلَمَّا جَاءَ أَمْرُنَا نَجَّيْنَا صَالِحًا وَالَّذِينَ آمَنُوا مَعَهُ بِرَحْمَةٍ مِنَّا وَمِنْ خِزْيِ يَوْمِئِذٍ ۗ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ هُوَ الْقَوِيُّ الْعَزِيزُ (66)

So, when Our command (of punishment) came We delivered Saleh by Our grace, and those who believed, with him, from the disgrace of that day. Verily your Lord is mighty and powerful. Puis, lorsque Notre ordre vint, Nous sauvâmes Sâlih et ceux qui avaient cru avec lui, - par une miséricorde venant de Nous - de l'ignominie de ce jour-là. En vérité, c'est ton Seigneur qui est le Fort, le Puissant.

وَأَخَذَ الَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوا الصَّيْحَةُ فَأَصْبَحُوا فِي دِيَارِهِمْ جَاثِمِينَ (67)

The sinners were seized by a blast from heaven, and lay overturned in their homes in the morning, Et le Cri saisit les injustes. Et les voilà foudroyés dans leurs demeures,

كَأَنْ لَمْ يَغْنَوْا فِيهَا ۗ أَلَا إِنَّ ثَمُودَ كَفَرُوا رَبَّهُمْ ۗ أَلَا بُعْدًا لِثَمُودَ (68)

As though they had never lived there at all. Beware! The people of Thamud turned away from their Lord. Beware! Accursed are the people of Thamud. comme s'ils n'y avaient jamais prospéré. En vérité, les Thamûd n'ont pas cru en leur Seigneur. Que périssent les Thamûd!

وَلَقَدْ جَاءَتْ رُسُلُنَا إِبْرَاهِيمَ بِالْبُشْرَىٰ قَالُوا سَلَامًا ۖ قَالَ سَلَامٌ ۖ فَمَا لَبِثَ أَنْ جَاءَ بِعِجْلٍ حَنِيذٍ (69)

Our angels came to Abraham with good news, and said: "Peace on you. "Peace on you too," said Abraham, and hastened to bring a roasted calf. Et Nos émissaires sont, certes, venus à Abraham avec la bonne nouvelle, en disant: «Salâm!». Il dit: «Salâm!», et il ne tarda pas à apporter un veau rôti.

فَلَمَّا رَأَىٰ أَيْدِيَهُمْ لَا تَصِلُ إِلَيْهِ نَكِرَهُمْ وَأَوْجَسَ مِنْهُمْ خِيفَةً ۚ قَالُوا لَا تَخَفْ إِنَّا أُرْسِلْنَا إِلَىٰ قَوْمِ لُوطٍ (70)

When they did not stretch their hands towards it he became suspicious and afraid of them. They said: "Do not be afraid. We have been sent to the people of Lot." Puis, lorsqu'il vit que leurs mains ne l'approchaient pas, il fut pris de suspicion à leur égard et ressentit de la peur vis-à-vis d'eux. Ils dirent: «N'aie pas peur, nous sommes envoyés au peuple de Lot».

وَامْرَأَتُهُ قَائِمَةٌ فَضَحِكَتْ فَبَشَّرْنَاهَا بِإِسْحَاقَ وَمِنْ وَرَاءِ إِسْحَاقَ يَعْقُوبَ (71)

His wife who stood near, laughed as We gave her the good news of Isaac, and after Isaac of Jacob. Sa femme était debout, et elle rit alors; Nous lui annonçâmes donc (la naissance d') Isaac, et après Isaac, Jacob.

قَالَتْ يَا وَيْلَتَىٰ أَأَلِدُ وَأَنَا عَجُوزٌ وَهَٰذَا بَعْلِي شَيْخًا ۖ إِنَّ هَٰذَا لَشَيْءٌ عَجِيبٌ (72)

She said: "Woe betide me! Will I give birth when I am old and this my husband be aged? This is indeed surprising!" Elle dit: «Malheur à moi! Vais-je enfanter alors que je suis vieille et que mon mari, que voici, est un vieillard? C'est là vraiment une chose étrange!»

قَالُوا أَتَعْجَبِينَ مِنْ أَمْرِ اللَّهِ ۖ رَحْمَتُ اللَّهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ عَلَيْكُمْ أَهْلَ الْبَيْتِ ۚ إِنَّهُ حَمِيدٌ مَجِيدٌ (73)

"Why are you surprised at the command of God? God's mercy and blessings be upon you, O members of this household," they said. "Verily He is worthy of praise and glory." Ils dirent: «T'étonnes-tu de l'ordre d'Allah? Que la miséricorde d'Allah et Ses bénédictions soient sur vous, gens de cette maison! Il est vraiment, digne de louange et de glorification!»

فَلَمَّا ذَهَبَ عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الرَّوْعُ وَجَاءَتْهُ الْبُشْرَىٰ يُجَادِلُنَا فِي قَوْمِ لُوطٍ (74)

When Abraham's fear was dispelled, and the good news had come to him, he pleaded for the people of Lot with Us. Lorsque l'effroi eut quitté Abraham et que la bonne nouvelle l'eut atteint, voilà qu'il discuta avec Nous (en faveur) du peuple de Lot.

إِنَّ إِبْرَاهِيمَ لَحَلِيمٌ أَوَّاهٌ مُنِيبٌ (75)

Abraham was kind, compassionate, and penitent. Abraham était, certes, longanime, très implorant et repentant.

يَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ أَعْرِضْ عَنْ هَٰذَا ۖ إِنَّهُ قَدْ جَاءَ أَمْرُ رَبِّكَ ۖ وَإِنَّهُمْ آتِيهِمْ عَذَابٌ غَيْرُ مَرْدُودٍ (76)

"Desist from pleading, O Abraham," (they said). "Your Lord's command has verily been issued, and a punishment that cannot be averted is bound to fall on them." O Abraham, renonce à cela; car l'ordre de Ton Seigneur est déjà venu, et un châtiment irrévocable va leur arriver».

وَلَمَّا جَاءَتْ رُسُلُنَا لُوطًا سِيءَ بِهِمْ وَضَاقَ بِهِمْ ذَرْعًا وَقَالَ هَٰذَا يَوْمٌ عَصِيبٌ (77)

So when Our angels came to Lot, he grieved for them, and felt powerless to help them, and said: "This is a day of sorrow. Et quand Nos émissaires (Anges) vinrent à Lot, il fut chagriné pour eux, et en éprouva une grande gêne. Et il dit: «Voici un jour terrible».

وَجَاءَهُ قَوْمُهُ يُهْرَعُونَ إِلَيْهِ وَمِنْ قَبْلُ كَانُوا يَعْمَلُونَ السَّيِّئَاتِ ۚ قَالَ يَا قَوْمِ هَٰؤُلَاءِ بَنَاتِي هُنَّ أَطْهَرُ لَكُمْ ۖ فَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ وَلَا تُخْزُونِ فِي ضَيْفِي ۖ أَلَيْسَ مِنْكُمْ رَجُلٌ رَشِيدٌ (78)

His people came excited to him. They were addicted to sin already. Said (Lot): "O my people, these daughters of mine are cleaner (and lawful) for you. Have fear of God, and do not shame me before my guests. Is there no man of discernment among you?" Quant à son peuple, ils vinrent à lui, accourant. Auparavant ils commettaient des mauvaises actions. Il dit: «O mon peuple, voici mes filles: elles sont plus pures pour vous. Craignez Allah donc, et ne me déshonorez pas dans mes hôtes. N'y a-t-il pas parmi vous un homme raisonnable?»

قَالُوا لَقَدْ عَلِمْتَ مَا لَنَا فِي بَنَاتِكَ مِنْ حَقٍّ وَإِنَّكَ لَتَعْلَمُ مَا نُرِيدُ (79)

They said: "You know we have no need for your daughters, and know well what we want." Ils dirent: Tu sais très bien que nous n'avons pas de droit sur tes filles. Et en vérité, tu sais bien ce que nous voulons».

قَالَ لَوْ أَنَّ لِي بِكُمْ قُوَّةً أَوْ آوِي إِلَىٰ رُكْنٍ شَدِيدٍ (80)

"I wish I had the power to resist you," said (Lot), "or powerful support." Il dit: «[Ah!] si j'avais de la force pour vous résister! ou bien si je trouvais un appui solide!»

قَالُوا يَا لُوطُ إِنَّا رُسُلُ رَبِّكَ لَنْ يَصِلُوا إِلَيْكَ ۖ فَأَسْرِ بِأَهْلِكَ بِقِطْعٍ مِنَ اللَّيْلِ وَلَا يَلْتَفِتْ مِنْكُمْ أَحَدٌ إِلَّا امْرَأَتَكَ ۖ إِنَّهُ مُصِيبُهَا مَا أَصَابَهُمْ ۚ إِنَّ مَوْعِدَهُمُ الصُّبْحُ ۚ أَلَيْسَ الصُّبْحُ بِقَرِيبٍ (81)

(The angels) said: "O Lot, we have verily been sent by your Lord. They will never be able to harm you. So, leave late at night with your family, and none of you should turn back to look; but your wife will suffer (the fate) they are going to suffer. Their hour of doom is in the morning: Is not the morning nigh?" Alors [les hôtes] dirent: «O Lot, nous sommes vraiment les émissaires de ton Seigneur. Ils ne pourront jamais t'atteindre. Pars avec ta famille à un moment de la nuit. Et que nul d'entre vous ne se retourne en arrière. Exception faite de ta femme qui sera atteinte par ce qui frappera les autres. Ce qui les menace s'accomplira à l'aube. L'aube n'est-elle pas proche?»

فَلَمَّا جَاءَ أَمْرُنَا جَعَلْنَا عَالِيَهَا سَافِلَهَا وَأَمْطَرْنَا عَلَيْهَا حِجَارَةً مِنْ سِجِّيلٍ مَنْضُودٍ (82)

So when the decreed moment arrived, We turned the habitations upside down, and rained upon them stones of hardened lava in quick succession, Et, lorsque vint Notre ordre, Nous renversâmes [la cité] de fond en comble, et fîmes pleuvoir sur elle en masse, des pierres d'argile succédant les unes aux autres,

مُسَوَّمَةً عِنْدَ رَبِّكَ ۖ وَمَا هِيَ مِنَ الظَّالِمِينَ بِبَعِيدٍ (83)

Impressed with (the signs) of your Lord. And such (punishment) is not far for the (other) transgressers. portant une marque connue de ton Seigneur. Et elles (ces pierres) ne sont pas loin des injustes.

وَإِلَىٰ مَدْيَنَ أَخَاهُمْ شُعَيْبًا ۚ قَالَ يَا قَوْمِ اعْبُدُوا اللَّهَ مَا لَكُمْ مِنْ إِلَٰهٍ غَيْرُهُ ۖ وَلَا تَنْقُصُوا الْمِكْيَالَ وَالْمِيزَانَ ۚ إِنِّي أَرَاكُمْ بِخَيْرٍ وَإِنِّي أَخَافُ عَلَيْكُمْ عَذَابَ يَوْمٍ مُحِيطٍ (84)

We sent to Midian their brother Shu'aib. He said: "O my people, worship God; you have no other god but He. So do not give in short measure nor underweigh. I see you are prosperous, but I fear the doom of an overwhelming Day for you. Et (Nous avons envoyé) aux Madyan, leur frère Chuayb qui leur dit: «O mon peuple, adorez Allah; vous n'avez point de divinité en dehors Lui. Et ne diminuez pas les mesures et le poids. Je vous vois dans l'aisance, et je crains pour vous [si vous ne croyez pas] le châtiment d'un jour qui enveloppera tout.

وَيَا قَوْمِ أَوْفُوا الْمِكْيَالَ وَالْمِيزَانَ بِالْقِسْطِ ۖ وَلَا تَبْخَسُوا النَّاسَ أَشْيَاءَهُمْ وَلَا تَعْثَوْا فِي الْأَرْضِ مُفْسِدِينَ (85)

So, O my people, weigh and measure with justness, and do not withhold things due to men, and do not spread corruption in the land, despoiling it. O mon peuple, faites équitablement pleine mesure et plein poids, ne dépréciez pas aux gens leurs valeurs et ne semez pas la corruption sur terre.

بَقِيَّتُ اللَّهِ خَيْرٌ لَكُمْ إِنْ كُنْتُمْ مُؤْمِنِينَ ۚ وَمَا أَنَا عَلَيْكُمْ بِحَفِيظٍ (86)

That which is left to you by God is better, if you are true believers; yet I am not a warden over you." Ce qui demeure auprès d'Allah est meilleur pour vous si vous êtes croyants! Et je ne suis pas un gardien pour vous».

قَالُوا يَا شُعَيْبُ أَصَلَاتُكَ تَأْمُرُكَ أَنْ نَتْرُكَ مَا يَعْبُدُ آبَاؤُنَا أَوْ أَنْ نَفْعَلَ فِي أَمْوَالِنَا مَا نَشَاءُ ۖ إِنَّكَ لَأَنْتَ الْحَلِيمُ الرَّشِيدُ (87)

They said: "O Shu'aib, does your piety teach that we should abandon what our fathers worshipped, or desist from doing what we like with our goods? How gracious a man of discernment you are indeed!" Ils dirent: «O Chuayb! Est-ce que ta prière te demande de nous faire abandonner ce qu'adoraient nos ancêtres, ou de ne plus faire de nos biens ce que nous voulons? Est-ce toi l'indulgent, le droit?»

قَالَ يَا قَوْمِ أَرَأَيْتُمْ إِنْ كُنْتُ عَلَىٰ بَيِّنَةٍ مِنْ رَبِّي وَرَزَقَنِي مِنْهُ رِزْقًا حَسَنًا ۚ وَمَا أُرِيدُ أَنْ أُخَالِفَكُمْ إِلَىٰ مَا أَنْهَاكُمْ عَنْهُ ۚ إِنْ أُرِيدُ إِلَّا الْإِصْلَاحَ مَا اسْتَطَعْتُ ۚ وَمَا تَوْفِيقِي إِلَّا بِاللَّهِ ۚ عَلَيْهِ تَوَكَّلْتُ وَإِلَيْهِ أُنِيبُ (88)

He said: "O my people, think. I have a clear sign from my Lord, who has also given me a goodly provision, and I do not wish for myself what I forbid you: I only wish to reform you as best I can. My success is from God alone. In Him I have placed my trust, and to Him I turn. Il dit: «O mon peuple, voyez-vous si je me base sur une preuve évidente émanant de mon Seigneur, et s'Il m'attribue de Sa part une excellente donation?... Je ne veux nullement faire ce que je vous interdis. Je ne veux que la réforme, autant que je le puis. Et ma réussite ne dépend que d'Allah. En Lui je place ma confiance, et c'est vers Lui que je reviens repentant.

وَيَا قَوْمِ لَا يَجْرِمَنَّكُمْ شِقَاقِي أَنْ يُصِيبَكُمْ مِثْلُ مَا أَصَابَ قَوْمَ نُوحٍ أَوْ قَوْمَ هُودٍ أَوْ قَوْمَ صَالِحٍ ۚ وَمَا قَوْمُ لُوطٍ مِنْكُمْ بِبَعِيدٍ (89)

"O my people (I fear) lest your opposition to me should bring you the like of what befell the people of Noah or Hud or Saleh; and the people of Lot are not distant from you. O mon peuple, que votre répugnance et votre hostilité à mon égard ne vous entraînent pas à encourir les mêmes châtiments qui atteignirent le peuple de Noé, le peuple de Hûd, ou le peuple de Sâlih et (l'exemple du) peuple de Lot n'est pas éloigné de vous.

وَاسْتَغْفِرُوا رَبَّكُمْ ثُمَّ تُوبُوا إِلَيْهِ ۚ إِنَّ رَبِّي رَحِيمٌ وَدُودٌ (90)

"Beg your Lord to forgive you, and turn to Him. Indeed my Lord is compassionate and loving." Et implorez le pardon de votre Seigneur et repentez-vous à Lui. Mon Seigneur est vraiment Miséricordieux et plein d'amour».

قَالُوا يَا شُعَيْبُ مَا نَفْقَهُ كَثِيرًا مِمَّا تَقُولُ وَإِنَّا لَنَرَاكَ فِينَا ضَعِيفًا ۖ وَلَوْلَا رَهْطُكَ لَرَجَمْنَاكَ ۖ وَمَا أَنْتَ عَلَيْنَا بِعَزِيزٍ (91)

They said: "O Shu'aib, much of what you say is meaningless to us, and then (for sure) you are powerless among us. But for your clan we would have stoned you to death. You have no power over us. Ils dirent: «O Chuayb, nous ne comprenons pas grand chose à ce que tu dis; et vraiment nous te considérons comme un faible parmi nous. Si ce n'est ton clan, nous t'aurions certainement lapidé. Et rien ne nous empêche de t'atteindre».

قَالَ يَا قَوْمِ أَرَهْطِي أَعَزُّ عَلَيْكُمْ مِنَ اللَّهِ وَاتَّخَذْتُمُوهُ وَرَاءَكُمْ ظِهْرِيًّا ۖ إِنَّ رَبِّي بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ مُحِيطٌ (92)

He said: "My clan seems mightier to you than God whom you neglect and push behind your backs. Surely what you do is within the power of my Lord. Il dit: «O mon peuple, mon clan est-il à vos yeux plus puissant qu'Allah à qui vous tournez ouvertement le dos? Mon Seigneur embrasse (en Sa science) tout ce que vous œuvrez.

وَيَا قَوْمِ اعْمَلُوا عَلَىٰ مَكَانَتِكُمْ إِنِّي عَامِلٌ ۖ سَوْفَ تَعْلَمُونَ مَنْ يَأْتِيهِ عَذَابٌ يُخْزِيهِ وَمَنْ هُوَ كَاذِبٌ ۖ وَارْتَقِبُوا إِنِّي مَعَكُمْ رَقِيبٌ (93)

Do on your part what you can, O people, I will do what I will. You will come to know who suffers the punishment that would put him to shame, and who is the liar. So watch; I am watching with you." O mon peuple, agissez autant que vous voulez. Moi aussi j'agis. Bientôt, vous saurez sur qui tombera un châtiment qui le déshonorera, et qui de nous est l'imposteur. Et attendez (la conséquence de vos actes)! Moi aussi j'attends avec vous».

وَلَمَّا جَاءَ أَمْرُنَا نَجَّيْنَا شُعَيْبًا وَالَّذِينَ آمَنُوا مَعَهُ بِرَحْمَةٍ مِنَّا وَأَخَذَتِ الَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوا الصَّيْحَةُ فَأَصْبَحُوا فِي دِيَارِهِمْ جَاثِمِينَ (94)

And when Our word came to pass, We rescued Shu'aib and those who believed, with him, by Our grace, but those who were wicked were seized by a punishment from heaven, and lay overturned in their homes in the morning. Lorsque vint Notre ordre, Nous sauvâmes, par une miséricorde de Notre part, Chuayb et ceux qui avaient cru avec lui. Et le Cri terrible saisit les injustes, et ils gisèrent dans leurs demeures,

كَأَنْ لَمْ يَغْنَوْا فِيهَا ۗ أَلَا بُعْدًا لِمَدْيَنَ كَمَا بَعِدَتْ ثَمُودُ (95)

As though they had not dwelt there at all. Beware! Condemmed were the people of Midian as those of Thamud had been before them! comme s'ils n'y avaient jamais prospéré. Que les Madyan s'éloignent comme les Thamûd se sont éloignés.

وَلَقَدْ أَرْسَلْنَا مُوسَىٰ بِآيَاتِنَا وَسُلْطَانٍ مُبِينٍ (96)

We sent Moses with Our signs and full authority Et Nous avions envoyé Moïse, avec Nos miracles et une autorité incontestable,

إِلَىٰ فِرْعَوْنَ وَمَلَئِهِ فَاتَّبَعُوا أَمْرَ فِرْعَوْنَ ۖ وَمَا أَمْرُ فِرْعَوْنَ بِرَشِيدٍ (97)

To the Pharaoh and his nobles, but they followed the bidding of Pharaoh, though the bidding of Pharaoh was unrightful. à Pharaon et ses notables. Mais ils suivirent l'ordre de Pharaon, bien que l'ordre de Pharaon n'avait rien de sensé.

يَقْدُمُ قَوْمَهُ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ فَأَوْرَدَهُمُ النَّارَ ۖ وَبِئْسَ الْوِرْدُ الْمَوْرُودُ (98)

He shall be at the head of his people on the Day of Resurrection, and drive them into Hell like cattle driven to water -- what an evil watering-place to reach! Il précédera son peuple, au Jour de la Résurrection. Il les mènera à l'aiguade du Feu. Et quelle détestable aiguade!

وَأُتْبِعُوا فِي هَٰذِهِ لَعْنَةً وَيَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ ۚ بِئْسَ الرِّفْدُ الْمَرْفُودُ (99)

Damned will they be in this world, and on the Day of Doom how evil the gift that they will receive! Et ils sont poursuivis par une malédiction ici-bas et au Jour de la Résurrection. Quel détestable don leur sera donné!

ذَٰلِكَ مِنْ أَنْبَاءِ الْقُرَىٰ نَقُصُّهُ عَلَيْكَ ۖ مِنْهَا قَائِمٌ وَحَصِيدٌ (100)

These are a few accounts of settlements that We narrate to you. Some still survive, and some have been mowed down. Cela fait partie des récits que Nous te [Muhammad] racontons concernant des cités: les unes sont encore debout, tandis que d'autres (sont complètement) rasées.

وَمَا ظَلَمْنَاهُمْ وَلَٰكِنْ ظَلَمُوا أَنْفُسَهُمْ ۖ فَمَا أَغْنَتْ عَنْهُمْ آلِهَتُهُمُ الَّتِي يَدْعُونَ مِنْ دُونِ اللَّهِ مِنْ شَيْءٍ لَمَّا جَاءَ أَمْرُ رَبِّكَ ۖ وَمَا زَادُوهُمْ غَيْرَ تَتْبِيبٍ (101)

We did not wrong them; they wronged themselves. When your Lord's chastisement descended upon them, their gods, on whom they called apart from God, were not of the least avail, and all they did was only to add to their destruction. Nous ne leur avons fait aucun tort. Mais ils se sont fait du tort à eux-mêmes. Leurs divinités, qu'ils invoquaient en dehors d'Allah, ne leur ont servi à rien, quand l'Ordre (le châtiment) de ton Seigneur fut venu; elles n'ont fait qu'accroître leur perte.

وَكَذَٰلِكَ أَخْذُ رَبِّكَ إِذَا أَخَذَ الْقُرَىٰ وَهِيَ ظَالِمَةٌ ۚ إِنَّ أَخْذَهُ أَلِيمٌ شَدِيدٌ (102)

Such is the punishment of your Lord when He seizes human settlements in the acts of wickedness. Surely His hold is grievous and terrible. Telle est la rigueur de la prise de ton Seigneur quand Il frappe les cités lorsqu'elles sont injustes. Son châtiment est bien douloureux et bien dur.

إِنَّ فِي ذَٰلِكَ لَآيَةً لِمَنْ خَافَ عَذَابَ الْآخِرَةِ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ يَوْمٌ مَجْمُوعٌ لَهُ النَّاسُ وَذَٰلِكَ يَوْمٌ مَشْهُودٌ (103)

In this surely is a sign for him who fears the torment of the Hereafter, the day when mankind will be assembled together, which will be a day when all things would become evident. Il y a bien là un signe pour celui qui craint le châtiment de l'au-delà. C'est un jour où les gens seront rassemblés; et c'est un jour solennel (attesté par tous).

وَمَا نُؤَخِّرُهُ إِلَّا لِأَجَلٍ مَعْدُودٍ (104)

We are deferring it only for a time ordained. Et Nous ne le retardons que pour un terme bien déterminé.

يَوْمَ يَأْتِ لَا تَكَلَّمُ نَفْسٌ إِلَّا بِإِذْنِهِ ۚ فَمِنْهُمْ شَقِيٌّ وَسَعِيدٌ (105)

The day it comes no soul will dare say a word but by His leave; and some will be wretched, some will be blessed. Le jour où cela arrivera, nulle âme ne parlera qu'avec Sa permission (celle d'Allah). Il y aura des damnés et des heureux.

فَأَمَّا الَّذِينَ شَقُوا فَفِي النَّارِ لَهُمْ فِيهَا زَفِيرٌ وَشَهِيقٌ (106)

And those who are doomed, will be in Hell: For them will be sighing and sobbing, Ceux qui sont damnés seront dans le Feu où ils ont des soupirs et des sanglots.

خَالِدِينَ فِيهَا مَا دَامَتِ السَّمَاوَاتُ وَالْأَرْضُ إِلَّا مَا شَاءَ رَبُّكَ ۚ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ فَعَّالٌ لِمَا يُرِيدُ (107)

Where they will dwell so long as heaven and earth endure, unless your Lord will otherwise. Verily your Lord does as He wills. Pour y demeurer éternellement tant que dureront les cieux et la terre - à moins que ton Seigneur en décide autrement - car ton Seigneur fait absolument tout ce qu'Il veut.

وَأَمَّا الَّذِينَ سُعِدُوا فَفِي الْجَنَّةِ خَالِدِينَ فِيهَا مَا دَامَتِ السَّمَاوَاتُ وَالْأَرْضُ إِلَّا مَا شَاءَ رَبُّكَ ۖ عَطَاءً غَيْرَ مَجْذُوذٍ (108)

Those who are blessed will be in Paradise, where they will dwell so long as heaven and earth survive, unless your Lord wills otherwise: This will be a gift uninterrupted. Et quant aux bienheureux, ils seront au Paradis, pour y demeurer éternellement tant que dureront les cieux et la terre - à moins que ton Seigneur n'en décide autrement - c'est là un don qui n'est jamais interrompu.

فَلَا تَكُ فِي مِرْيَةٍ مِمَّا يَعْبُدُ هَٰؤُلَاءِ ۚ مَا يَعْبُدُونَ إِلَّا كَمَا يَعْبُدُ آبَاؤُهُمْ مِنْ قَبْلُ ۚ وَإِنَّا لَمُوَفُّوهُمْ نَصِيبَهُمْ غَيْرَ مَنْقُوصٍ (109)

So, you should not entertain any doubt about those whom they worship: They only worship what their fathers had worshipped before them. We shall verily give them their meed without diminution. Ne sois donc pas en doute au sujet de ce que ceux-là adorent. Ils n'adorent que comme leurs ancêtres adoraient auparavant. Et Nous leur donnerons la totalité de leur part, sans en rien retrancher.

وَلَقَدْ آتَيْنَا مُوسَى الْكِتَابَ فَاخْتُلِفَ فِيهِ ۚ وَلَوْلَا كَلِمَةٌ سَبَقَتْ مِنْ رَبِّكَ لَقُضِيَ بَيْنَهُمْ ۚ وَإِنَّهُمْ لَفِي شَكٍّ مِنْهُ مُرِيبٍ (110)

Verily We gave to Moses the Book, but there was disagreement about it. Had the decree of your Lord (delaying it) not been issued the matter would have been settled between them. They are still suspicious of it and in doubt. Et Nous avons déjà donné à Moïse le Livre. Il y eut des divergences à son sujet. S'il n'y avait pas un décret préalable de la part de ton Seigneur, tout aurait été décidé entre eux. Et ils sont, à son sujet pleins d'un doute troublant.

وَإِنَّ كُلًّا لَمَّا لَيُوَفِّيَنَّهُمْ رَبُّكَ أَعْمَالَهُمْ ۚ إِنَّهُ بِمَا يَعْمَلُونَ خَبِيرٌ (111)

Surely your Lord will reward everyone in accordance with his deeds. He is certainly aware of all they do. Très certainement, ton Seigneur fera leur pleine rétribution à tous pour leurs œuvres... Il est Parfaitement Connaisseur de ce qu'ils font.

فَاسْتَقِمْ كَمَا أُمِرْتَ وَمَنْ تَابَ مَعَكَ وَلَا تَطْغَوْا ۚ إِنَّهُ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ بَصِيرٌ (112)

So, you and those who turned to God with you, should walk along the straight path as you have been commanded, and do not transgress, for He verily sees whatsoever you do. Demeure sur le droit chemin comme il t'est commandé, ainsi que ceux qui sont revenus [à Allah] avec toi. Et ne commettez pas d'excès. Car vraiment Il observe ce que vous faites.

وَلَا تَرْكَنُوا إِلَى الَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوا فَتَمَسَّكُمُ النَّارُ وَمَا لَكُمْ مِنْ دُونِ اللَّهِ مِنْ أَوْلِيَاءَ ثُمَّ لَا تُنْصَرُونَ (113)

Do not lean towards the wicked, or you will be caught in the flames of Hell, and have none to befriend you other than God, nor will you be given help. Et ne vous penchez pas vers les injustes: sinon le Feu vous atteindrait. Vous n'avez pas d'alliés en dehors d'Allah. Et vous ne serez pas secourus.

وَأَقِمِ الصَّلَاةَ طَرَفَيِ النَّهَارِ وَزُلَفًا مِنَ اللَّيْلِ ۚ إِنَّ الْحَسَنَاتِ يُذْهِبْنَ السَّيِّئَاتِ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ ذِكْرَىٰ لِلذَّاكِرِينَ (114)

Stand up for the service of prayer at the two ends of day and the first watch of night. Remember that good deeds nullify the bad. This is a reminder for those who are observant. Et accomplis la Salât aux deux extrémités du jour et à certaines heures de la nuit. Les bonnes œuvres dissipent les mauvaises. Cela est une exhortation pour ceux qui réfléchissent.

وَاصْبِرْ فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ لَا يُضِيعُ أَجْرَ الْمُحْسِنِينَ (115)

Be steadfast, for verily God does not let the reward of those who are upright and do good to go waste. Et sois patient. Car Allah ne laisse pas perdre la récompense des gens bienfaisants.

فَلَوْلَا كَانَ مِنَ الْقُرُونِ مِنْ قَبْلِكُمْ أُولُو بَقِيَّةٍ يَنْهَوْنَ عَنِ الْفَسَادِ فِي الْأَرْضِ إِلَّا قَلِيلًا مِمَّنْ أَنْجَيْنَا مِنْهُمْ ۗ وَاتَّبَعَ الَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوا مَا أُتْرِفُوا فِيهِ وَكَانُوا مُجْرِمِينَ (116)

If only there had been men endued with virtue in the ages before you, who could preserve men from doing evil in the world, other than the few We saved from among them. Those who were wicked followed that which made them dissolute, and became sinners. Si seulement il existait, dans les générations d'avant vous, des gens vertueux qui interdisent la corruption sur terre! (Hélas) Il n'y en avait qu'un petit nombre que Nous sauvâmes, alors que les injustes persistaient dans le luxe (exagéré) dans lequel ils vivaient, et ils étaient des criminels.

وَمَا كَانَ رَبُّكَ لِيُهْلِكَ الْقُرَىٰ بِظُلْمٍ وَأَهْلُهَا مُصْلِحُونَ (117)

Your Lord would not surely destroy unjustly human habitations so long as the people are righteous. Et ton Seigneur n'est point tel à détruire injustement des cités dont les habitants sont des réformateurs.

وَلَوْ شَاءَ رَبُّكَ لَجَعَلَ النَّاسَ أُمَّةً وَاحِدَةً ۖ وَلَا يَزَالُونَ مُخْتَلِفِينَ (118)

But if your Lord had pleased He could have made all human beings into one community of belief. But they would still have differed from one another, Et si ton Seigneur avait voulu, Il aurait fait des gens une seule communauté. Or, ils ne cessent d'être en désaccord (entre eux,)

إِلَّا مَنْ رَحِمَ رَبُّكَ ۚ وَلِذَٰلِكَ خَلَقَهُمْ ۗ وَتَمَّتْ كَلِمَةُ رَبِّكَ لَأَمْلَأَنَّ جَهَنَّمَ مِنَ الْجِنَّةِ وَالنَّاسِ أَجْمَعِينَ (119)

Except those on whom your Lord had mercy for which He has created them. But fulfilled shall be the word of your Lord. "I will fill up Hell with jinns and men." sauf ceux à qui ton Seigneur a accordé miséricorde. C'est pour cela qu'Il les a créés. Et la parole de ton Seigneur s'accomplit: «Très certainement, Je remplirai l'Enfer de djinns et d'hommes, tous ensemble».

وَكُلًّا نَقُصُّ عَلَيْكَ مِنْ أَنْبَاءِ الرُّسُلِ مَا نُثَبِّتُ بِهِ فُؤَادَكَ ۚ وَجَاءَكَ فِي هَٰذِهِ الْحَقُّ وَمَوْعِظَةٌ وَذِكْرَىٰ لِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ (120)

The histories of apostles that We relate to you are (meant) to strengthen your heart. Through them has the truth come to you, and guidance, and reminder to those who believe. Et tout ce que Nous te racontons des récits des messagers, c'est pour en raffermir ton cœur. Et de ceux-ci t'est venue la vérité ainsi qu'une exhortation et un rappel aux croyants.

وَقُلْ لِلَّذِينَ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ اعْمَلُوا عَلَىٰ مَكَانَتِكُمْ إِنَّا عَامِلُونَ (121)

Say to the infidels. "Act as best you can, we are acting too; Et dis à ceux qui ne croient pas: «Oeuvrez autant que vous pouvez. Nous aussi, nous œuvrons.

وَانْتَظِرُوا إِنَّا مُنْتَظِرُونَ (122)

And wait (for what is to come), we are also waiting (to see)." Et attendez. Nous aussi nous attendons!»

وَلِلَّهِ غَيْبُ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَإِلَيْهِ يُرْجَعُ الْأَمْرُ كُلُّهُ فَاعْبُدْهُ وَتَوَكَّلْ عَلَيْهِ ۚ وَمَا رَبُّكَ بِغَافِلٍ عَمَّا تَعْمَلُونَ (123)

To God belong the secrets of the heavens and the earth, and all things will go back to Him. So worship Him and put your trust in Him; your Lord is not heedless of what you do. A Allah appartient l'Inconnaissable des cieux et de la terre, et c'est à Lui que revient l'ordre tout entier. Adore-Le donc et place ta confiance en Lui. Ton Seigneur n'est pas inattentif à ce que vous faites.
